Area Rugs

Area rugs are great for tying all the furniture and colors of a room together. With that being said area rugs can also make or break a room, so how do you choose what is the best area rug for your room, and what are the best area rugs to buy? In my opinion there is no best area rug to buy. Since there are no moving parts to break it is more about picking a good quality rug that looks like it will last for years to come.

Area Rug Designs

Area rugs come in all different designs and styles, although some are more popular than others, it basically all comes down to picking the perfect one that will fit both your room and your taste. Some people like Persian rugs with their timeless patterns that have been passed down through the centuries. While Oriental rugs might appeal to someone who has more of an Asian themed room. There are also many other different types of area rugs like shag rugs, southwestern area rugs, braided rugs, contemporary area rugs, modern area rugs just to name a few. Most of these can be purchased as round area rugs or as square area rugs, although custom rugs are always available if you want to spend the extra money.

But wait, when you are choosing a rug there are not only all these different styles of rugs out there, but they are all made out of different materials as well. These include wool area rugs, cowhide rugs, bamboo rugs, and rugs made out of all kinds of different synthetic fibers just to name a few.

So now you have a little information on the different area rug designs, and what kind of materials they can be made out of, but one of the most important things you can do when choosing an area rug is pick one that fits your room. Choosing the correct size of rug is vital to tying everything in your room together. Large area rugs will sometimes over power a room, and sometimes small area rugs just do not look right especially if you have really large furniture. When searching for the perfect rug always try to buy stock sizes when ever available like 9×12 area rugs, 8×10 area rugs, or even 4×6 area rugs. These stock sizes are usually cheaper, and will save you a little money over odd or custom sized rugs.

Thoughts On Picking An Area Rug

When it comes to picking the perfect area rug there are two trains of thought. The first is pick your rug first and then decorate your room around the new rug. This method is great if you are starting out with a new house or room that doesn’t have any furniture, but unfortunately this method doesn’t work for most of us. The second train of thought is pick an area rug that really ties everything in the room together, and make it and the furniture around it a focal point of the room without overpowering the room.
