Braided Area Rugs
Braided area rugs have been popular on and off since the 1800s. Many a cabin or country home has been graced with beautiful handmade braided rugs. In those days, the rugs were often made of old fabric scraps or rags to provide a bit of comfort to what may have been a cold, barren room. A braided rug is traditionally used to add warmth to an otherwise cold floor, add beauty and cushion hard floors.
For the most part, they are inexpensive in comparison to installing wall-to-wall carpeting and provide nice splashes of color in any room they are decorating. Area rugs can serve many different purposes and functions around a home or even in an office. These cheery rugs are great for insulating rooms and provide a warm surface to walk on besides icy cold floors, especially for little children.
The additional insulation provided by the fabric in these carpets helps absorb sound in a room, so not every little noise is a distraction. You can protect expensive wood floors with these or cover up a damaged floor and bring in new color at the same time. These multiple purpose rugs are often used in small, much like a throw rug beside a bed in tiled rooms. They are handy in entryway areas for trapping dirt at the front door, so it is not tracked to other parts of the home.
These versatile rugs come in a wide range of sizes, colors and styles. They are frequently designed as rectangular, heart shaped, oval or round braided area rugs. Most are made by braiding fabric strips, rags or heavy yarns together. These braids are then stitched into various shapes, which become beautiful braided area rugs. Today many people still enjoy making these rugs by hand; however, they are also machine-made and available commercially for purchase.
Two popular styles are tubular and flat braided rugs. Of the two types, flat braided are considered more durable, because yarn or material is braided throughout the braid making is thicker and tougher. Whereas tubular braided rugs are made with a synthetic core in the center and usually covered with some type of yearn, which does not wear as well. Handmade or even commercial braided area rugs wear quite well and last a long time. If the size is small, enough they are easily put in a washing machine to clean. Larger sizes may need professional cleaning. Many braided rugs are reversible, giving you twice the wear.
