Red Shag Rug
At first glance, a red shag rug might seem like an extreme choice for home decorating. However, the variety of shag rugs available can turn what seems to be a difficult or risky choice into a beautiful accent for nearly any decorating scheme. Shag rugs are typically made of looped pile material, much like terrycloth. Most rugs are woven by forming long or short loops and shearing them to acquire a flat surface. Shag rugs are left unsheared, leaving long loops of material creating a fluffy, shaggy appearance. Shag pile is available in wall-to-wall and standard carpeting, as well as throw rugs, area rugs and any other typical rug format and in any fiber that rugs can be made from.
A red shag rug or shag area rug can be large or small, plain or patterned, traditional or dramatically modern. A deep, luxuriously piled chenille or microfiber shag rug in crimson can make a wonderful highlight to either a modern or Victorian style bathroom, as well as being a richly sensual experience when stepping out of the bath or shower. A modern living room might benefit from a linen area rug utilizing geometric shapes or swirls in shades of red or red contrasted with primary colors, black or gray. A round leather shag rug would make a terrific conversation piece, and coordinate well with leather or wood furnishings. For the dining area, a traditional wool shag carpet in shades of maroon, terracotta or carmine will anchor any decorating scheme and add a touch of luxury to the dining experience. Red shag area rugs bring color to children’s rooms and brighten hallways. Bamboo, jute and sisal are wonderful eco-friendly choices that make a warm, welcoming statement in an entryway.
Be it carmine or coral, raspberry or rose, a red shag rug can blend with nearly any color scheme or décor. Red shag rugs and red shag area rugs can be found in patterns and solids, with low or deep piles and in a variety of materials and fibers. With all these choices available, what seems like an extreme decorating accent can be as bold or as subdued as the room that houses it.
