Shag Rug
Area rugs come in all shapes and sizes not to mention the different materials that these rugs are made out of. One type of rug that is often over looked is the shag rug. Shaggy rugs like the shag rug often bring back bad memories of that late 1960′s to 1970′s shag carpet from our childhood. Often for some reason a really nasty green color comes to mind. That was then though, and today’s shag rugs can add both style and elegance to any room. Granted I am sure that green shaggy rug is out there that will match your parents carpet from your childhood if that is your thing.
The shag part of shag rugs comes from the description of the carpet fibers that make up these area rugs. Usually the carpet fibers are between 2 inches to 5 inches long, and can be made out of all kinds of synthetic and natural fibers. Today most shaggy rugs that we see have the shorter carpet fibers because that is what is in style at the moment, but you can still find a shag rug here and there with the longer carpet fibers. These shag rugs are made from a wide variety of materials with the most popular being 100% wool area rugs, jute area rugs, and a combination of wool and silk area rugs. There is also one other type of shag rug that is becoming more and more popular and that is the leather shag rug.

Leather shag rugs work great in a home office or in a home that has a more modern feel to it. Another great thing about using a leather shag rug is that there is about every color imaginable to pick from, so you don’t have to worry about just being able to purchase a leather shag area rug in brown or black. So as you can see there is more to today’s modern shag area rugs than what most people think when they think of the old shag carpets of days gone by.
