Shag Rugs
Shag rugs are growing in popularity. In fact, more retailers are advertising new product lines especially for teens and college students that include shag rugs. As the market continues to grow for these fun and brightly colored shag rugs, more manufacturers are following the trend. The target market demographic for the shag run are girls ages 13-19. However, teens also love these rugs due in large part to many of the tween TV series on the Disney Channel. These series feature brightly colored bedroom designs with one or more of the rugs. With this basically free advertising, shag rugs and shag area rugs are literally flying off the shelves.
The basic design is of these girlie bedrooms include pastel walls, fuzzy pillows, hanging beads or shells, and a shag rug. With the popularity of tween TV series, more tween girls are purchasing the rugs in addition to other girlie bedroom items. Other popular items are beanbag chairs and feather boas.
These days pink is one of the most popular colors purchased by tween and teenage girls. This trend has created a new emergence of beaded door screens and other 1970s styled bedroom decor. Even disco balls are making a comeback.
These new bedroom girl power charging bedroom designs have become a popular request according to interior designers. Some of these designs have included large stencils of each girls name on the walls as well as murals. Among the request are these shag rugs. In fact, some shag rugs are available at specialty stores with characters from popular TV shows such as Wizards of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana. Matching pillows, blankets, and sheet sets are also available.
Shag rugs are manufactured in many colors, which include several shades of pink. Most are sold in the household departments of large department stores in a limited amount of these colors. Included colors are pastel pink, hot pink, lime green, turquoise, yellow and orange. Specialty shops and some catalog ordering stores feature colors to also include aqua, purple, black, and cranberry. Rugs featuring characters and other designs are a combination of colors.
Most rugs are priced between $20 to $40 as of 2010 depending on the size of the shag rug. For instance, a smaller rug would start at $20 and the large shag area rugs are around $40. Prices vary by manufacturer and the retailer from which you purchase your shag rug. Rugs featuring characters from TV shows cost up to $50.
